Biography:

Maksimilian Maksolly was an Estonian painter and war artist. He was born in Tallinn, Estonia in 1880 to a Hungarian father and Estonian mother. He studied art in St. Petersburg and later worked as a painter in Russia and Germany. In 1912, he married Klikeria Taigatšovaga in Peterburg. Maksolly lived in Russia from 1917 to 1923, where he restored frescoes and painted portraits. In 1923, he returned to Estonia through Poland and began working as a war artist, creating paintings of the Estonian War of Independence and its notable figures. His works were exhibited at various exhibitions between 1924-1929 and decorated military and government institutions, including the War Museum. Maksolly's most famous paintings include 'Paju lahing 31. jaanuaril 1919. a.' and 'Need, kes vabastasid isamaa'. He died in Rio de Janeiro in 1968.
