Biography:
Michael Aram is an award-winning American Armenian artist who has dedicated his career to craft-based design. Inspired by a trip to India at age 25, he established a second home and studio there. He launched his first metalware collection in 1989 after taking a trip to India where he began working with traditional artisanal techniques. Michael Aram is an internationally recognized designer who creates luxurious objects to enhance the everyday. While the business of Michael Aram has grown exponentially over the decades, Michael Aram the artist and inveterate entrepreneur is still personally behind every design that bears his name. Each piece represents a celebration of the hand – from the original drawing Michael creates at its inception, to the masterful artisans who give it life. Each is made one at a time, so no two are exactly alike, but all are imbued with a vibrancy that engages the senses and sparks both contemplation and conversation. He currently sells his work in over 600 locations worldwide, having opened his first namesake boutique in Manhattan in 2007. Michael Aram is active in the Armenian community in New York City, where he is a board member and a supporter of The Children of Armenia Fund (COAF), the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies and other organizations, as well as a supporter of the Eastern Diocese and his local Westchester church, St. Gregory the Enlightener, for which he created all of the interior metalwork and the steeple cross.
