Biography:
Michael Sherrill is an American ceramist and sculptor, primarily self-taught. He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1954. Sherrill's early work in the 1970s and 1980s focused on creating functional pieces in clay. In the 1990s, he turned to sculptural artwork in porcelain and metal. Sherrill lives and works in Bat Cave, North Carolina. His work is in several major collections, including the Mint Museum of Art and Design, the Smithsonian’s Renwick Museum of American Craft, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Art and Design, Corning Museum of Glass, and Takoma Glass Museum.
