Biography:
Michael Heizer is an American artist born in Berkeley in 1944. He is known for his large-scale sculptures and land art. He began his career producing conventional paintings and sculptures, but in the late 1960s, he moved to the deserts of California and Nevada, where he began to create large-scale works that could not be displayed in museums. His most famous work, Double Negative, is a sculpture made of two trenches in the Nevada desert. Heizer continues to work in the field of land art and has been the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. He currently lives and works in Hiko, Nevada, and New York City.
