Biography:
Mohamed Abumeis is a Libyan-Australian artist born in Tripoli, Libya in 1970. He graduated with honors from the Faculty of Fine Art (Painting and Drawing) in Tripoli in 1994. Abumeis has been based in Melbourne, Australia since 2009 and has been practicing art and exhibiting artworks since 1990. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in various countries including Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Italy, Spain, France, England, the USA, and Australia. Mohamed Abumeis has worked as an assistant lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Tripoli University, Libya, and as an art teacher and tutor. He completed his Doctor of Art from RMIT University in 2014. His artwork 'Sense of place: Lygon St – Melbourne' (2019) is a painting that explores the memory of place and space through oil on canvas. Abumeis's work often highlights the sense of place, diversity, and multiculturalism, using various codes, linguistic models, and narratives to invite a performative reading.
