Biography:

N. S. Harsha is an Indian contemporary artist born in 1969 in Mysore, India. He works in various media including painting, sculpture, site-specific installation, and public works. His art explores daily experiences in Mysore, but also reflects wider cultural, political, and economic globalization issues. His practice is inspired by Indian popular and miniature painting. Harsha earned a BFA in painting from Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts, Mysore in 1992 and an MFA in painting from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda in 1995. A major retrospective of his work was held at the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, in 2017. His works are part of the collections of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA). He has had solo exhibitions at Maison Hermes Tokyo, INIVA, London, DAAD, Berlin, Dallas Museum of Art, and Mori Art Museum. Harsha has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Arts, Fukuoka Asian Art Triennial, Singapore Biennale, Indian Highway, Bienal de São Paulo, Yokohama Triennial, Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, Adelaide International Biennial, and Dojima Biennial. He has received several awards, including the Vasudev Arnawaz Award, Sanskriti Award, Artes Mundi Prize, and a DAAD Scholarship.
