Nand Lal Katyal, born on January 30, 1935, in Lahore, is a distinguished Indian artist. His family relocated to Delhi after the Partition when he was around twelve years old. His father, Ram Lal Katyal, was a painter himself, which exposed Nand to art materials and the art circle of Lahore from an early age.
Nand studied Fine Art at the Polytechnic in Delhi and later worked as an art teacher. This educational background laid the foundation for his future artistic endeavors. His father's influence and the exposure to the art world during his formative years played a significant role in shaping his artistic style.
In the early 1960s, Katyal joined the American Center and served as the art director of Span magazine for many years before turning to art as a freelance practitioner. He was also the secretary of Delhi Silpi Chakra from 1963 to 1967 and directed the 10th Triennale India in 2001. Katyal's work has been exhibited in various national exhibitions, including the National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi.
