Biography:
Ngozi Ajah Schommers (1974-) is a German-Nigerian artist working across drawing, installation, painting, photography, and performance art to explore women's experiences and histories from pre-colonial West Africa. She is also interested in Igbo hair heritage and the cultural significance of hair in Nigeria. Her work focuses on subjects of identity, equality, memory, culture, migration, and colonialism. Schommers uses the body and experiences of the female gender, archival materials, and memories of her childhood to tackle these subjects.
