Biography:

Nikolay Egorovich Makovsky was a Russian painter born in Moscow in 1849. He was the brother of the famous artists Vladimir and Konstantin Makovsky. Nikolay studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, and later at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. He was known for his genre paintings, portraits, and landscapes. Makovsky was a member of the Peredvizhniki movement, a group of realist painters who sought to bring art to the people. He exhibited his works in Russia and abroad, and won several awards for his paintings. Nikolay Egorovich Makovsky died in 1900 in St. Petersburg.
