Nora Heysen was an Australian artist known for her portraits and still-life paintings. She was the first woman to win the prestigious Archibald Prize for portraiture in 1938 and became the first female official war artist during World War II, appointed by the Australian government in 1943. Heysen's work as a war artist focused on capturing the experiences of women serving in the military, particularly those working in non-combat roles such as cooks and nurses.
