Biography:
Otto Bettmann was a German curator who immigrated to the United States in 1935. He founded the Bettmann Archive, a collection of over 18 million photographs and images, some going back to the United States Civil War. The archive also includes many images from Europe and elsewhere. Bettmann actively expanded his collection by advertising in magazines and sold it to various companies before it was eventually acquired by Getty Images.
