Biography:

Guillaume Berggren, also known as Pehr Vilhelm Berggren, was a Swedish photographer born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1835 and died in Istanbul, Turkey in 1920. He was active in Istanbul and set up a photography studio named 'Lilla Sverige' on İstiklal Avenue. His photographs mostly depicted everyday scenes, but he also captured events related to the Russo-Turkish War and the opening of the Orient Express. Tourists were a major source of income for him. He went back to Sweden in 1883 but returned to Istanbul with a young woman whom he introduced as his niece, Hilda Ullin. She helped him operate his studio and set up a shop, which she ran for several years after his death. They also took advantage of the increasing popularity of postcards, producing numerous landscapes and urban scenes.
