Biography:
Pierre Petit was a French photographer born in Aups, France in 1831 or 1832 and died in 1909. He is sometimes credited as Pierre Lamy Petit. He learned photography in Paris in the workshop of André-Adolphe-Eugène Disdéri and opened his own workshop in Paris with Antoine René Trinquart in 1858. He was the official photographer of the International Exposition of 1867 and made many photographs of the Siege of Paris (1870–71). He exhibited many times at the Société française de photographie (SFP) and made some attempts in underwater photography in 1898. He is the author of the artwork 'Opening of the assembly of the Statue of Liberty'.
