Pieter Hugo is a South African photographer who primarily works in portraiture. He was born in Johannesburg in 1976 and currently lives in Cape Town. Hugo has had four monographs published and has had solo exhibitions at various museums and galleries around the world, including the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Ludwig Museum in Budapest, and the Museum für Kuns und Kulturgeschichte in Dortmund. He has also been included in group exhibitions at the Rijksmuseum in the Netherlands, Tate Modern in London, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul. Hugo's work often explores themes of identity, community, and the human condition, and he is known for his striking and evocative images.
