Pietro Melandri was born in Faenza, Italy in 1885 and is renowned for his innovative use of glazes and iridescence in his varnishes. As a skilled ceramist, Melandri worked with other notable artists such as Paolo Zoli and Francesco Nonni before establishing his own workshop in 1922.
Melandri's work was influenced by the traditional Italian ceramics, but he also experimented with new techniques and materials. His innovative approach to glazing and varnishing led to the creation of unique and stunning pieces. Melandri participated in major exhibitions, salons, and competitions in Italy and abroad, receiving numerous awards for his work.
Melandri's work was recognized with the Faenza Prize in 1938 and 1939. He continued to work until he was 87 years old and is considered one of the greatest ceramists of the 20th century in Italy.
