Biography:
Suiko, also known as Princess Nukatabe, was the 33rd monarch of Japan, according to the traditional order of succession. She was the first of eight women to take on the role of empress regnant in Japan's history. Suiko reigned from 593 until her death in 628. She was born in Yamato, Japan in 554 and died in 628. Suiko was the wife of Emperor Bidatsu and the second daughter of Emperor Kinmei. She was crowned Empress Suiko in 593, at the age of 39. During her reign, she sought to keep a balance between Buddhism and Shintoism and prevent religious conflict. She also introduced aspects of Chinese culture in such a way that they would blend in harmoniously with Japanese culture. Suiko was the first reigning empress of Japan in recorded history, and her reign marked the beginning of a new era in Japanese history.
