Biography:
Rani Chitrakar is an artist from Kathmandu, Nepal. She is known for her Patua painting on paper, made of seven panels, depicting discrimination of women in Indian society in several aspects. The painting is called 'Victimisation of women' and was made in 2005. Rani Chitrakar is one of the many Patuas from Naya, a village located at the western part of Medinipur, West Bengal, India. The Patuas are a community of scroll painters mostly known for their Patachitra, a traditional form of scroll painting based in West Bengal.
