Rei Kawakubo is a Japanese fashion designer born in Tokyo, Japan in 1942. She is the founder of the high-fashion label Comme des Garçons and Dover Street Market. Kawakubo is known for her avant-garde clothing designs and her influence on the fashion industry. In 2017, an exhibition of her designs entitled Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons, Art of the In-Between opened at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan. Kawakubo's designs have been featured in numerous fashion magazines and she has been recognized for her contributions to the fashion industry.
