Biography:
Richard Bell was born in 1953 in Charleville, Queensland. He is a member of the Kamilaroi, Kooma, Jiman and Gurang Gurang communities. Based in Brisbane, Richard has held numerous solo exhibitions. He works across video, painting, installation and text to pose provocative, complex and humorous challenges to our understanding of Australian culture and history. Bell addresses continuing injustices against Aboriginal people through his work. He is a propagandist and his art is liberation art. He believes that Aboriginal culture has been misrepresented and he aims to challenge this through his work.
