Richard Georg Willi Puhlmann, also known as Rico Puhlmann, was a German fashion photographer who worked with top models, stylists, and designers in the fashion industry. He was born on June 25, 1934, in Berlin, Germany, and died on July 17, 1996, in a tragic accident.

Early Life and Career

Puhlmann began his career as a child actor during World War II, making his acting debut in the 1942 film Front Theatre. He later studied fashion design, art design, and art history at the Berlin University of the Arts from 1951 to 1955. After completing his studies, he worked as a freelance fashion illustrator for several German magazines and Vogue France, taking the name Rico Puhlmann.

Photography Career

Puhlmann's photography career took off in the 1950s, and he became a renowned fashion photographer, contributing to publications such as Harper's Bazaar, Glamour, GQ, and The New York Times. He photographed celebrities including Isabella Rossellini, Cindy Crawford, Mel Gibson, Richard Avedon, Suzy Parker, Cheryl Tiegs, Naomi Campbell, Hildegard Knef, and Agnieszka Kotlarska. In 1972, Puhlmann received an award from the New York Society of Publication Designers for his photographic achievements.

Notable Works and Exhibitions

Puhlmann's works were exhibited as part of the permanent exhibition at the Nordhorn City Museum in Germany. He also presented his own collection of blouses under the sign Rico Puhlmann Design. Some of his notable works include Autumn Ensemble - exhibition graphic, Shot of uli richter men's fashion for the magazine Constanze Mode, and Ensemble with Kimono-styled Jacket - exhibition graphic.
