Biography:
Robert Saint-Brice was a Haitian painter, born on August 29, 1898, in Pétion-Ville, Haiti, and died on August 20, 1973, in Port-au-Prince. He was not fortunate enough to learn to read and write. Saint-Brice began painting in 1918 and became a member of the Centre d'Art in 1949. He was a Vodou priest and his paintings are the product of his time as a Vodou priest, semi-abstract, yet figurative. His career began in the 1940s and he is considered one of the most important Haitian painters of the 20th century.
