Biography:
Rodolfo Amoedo was a Brazilian painter, designer and decorator. He was born in Salvador, Brazil in 1857 and died in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1941. He studied at the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios do Rio de Janeiro and the Academia Imperial de Belas Artes. He later studied in Paris at the Académie Julian and the École des Beaux-arts. He was known for his paintings such as Portrait of a Woman and The Death of Atala. He was a professor at the Escola Nacional de Belas Artes and encouraged students to research various painting processes. He painted panels for the Supremo Tribunal Federal, the Biblioteca Nacional and the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. He is considered one of the most important Brazilian painters of the 19th century.
