Biography:
Samejima Sataro is a japanese ceramist born in 1934 in Naeshirogawa, Japan. He started his family’s pottery business, Naeshirogawa ware, in 1934 and joined Samejima Tsukasa’s studio in 1936. He completed the Kyoto Ceramic Research Institute. He is known for using the tataki technique for creating large jars and flowerpots, a technique brought by Korean potters 420 years ago. He is highly respected for his work in black Satsuma ware in the remote village of Naeshirogawa.
