Samuel Broadbent Jr. was an American painter and photographer born in Wethersfield, Connecticut in 1810 and died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1880. He began his career as a portrait painter and miniaturist in Hartford, Connecticut while in his teens, following in the footsteps of his father, Samuel Broadbent Sr., who was also a painter. Broadbent later turned to photography and became a prominent daguerreotypist in the mid-19th century. He is known for his portraits of notable figures, including President Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. Broadbent's work is held in various museum collections, including the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art.
