Biography:

Sarindar Dhaliwal is an Indian-Canadian artist born in Punjab, India. She was raised in England and currently resides in Toronto. Dhaliwal received her BA in Fine Art from Falmouth University in Cornwall, England (1978), followed by a MA from York University in Toronto in 2003. Subsequently, she earned a Ph.D in Cultural Studies from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Her work is narrative-based and explores issues of cultural identity through various mediums such as installation, printmaking, collage, painting, and video projection. Much of her art deals with memory, specifically childhood memories. Dhaliwal's artwork tells the story of her life as a global citizen by exploring complex relationships between memory and place, language and color, sport and ritual, family and society, and the histories of colonialism and migration focusing on racism, conflict, and identity.
