The Shang dynasty, also known as the Yin dynasty, was a Chinese royal dynasty that ruled in the Yellow River valley during the second millennium BC. It is the earliest dynasty of traditional Chinese history firmly supported by archaeological evidence. The Shang dynasty is known for its advancements in bronze work, oracle bone script, and the development of the Chinese writing system. The capital of the Shang dynasty was moved several times during its rule, with the final capital being located at Yinxu, near modern-day Anyang. The Shang dynasty was overthrown by the Zhou dynasty in 1046 BC.
