Sheikh Zain al-din, also known as Al-Iraqi, was a Kurdish artist born in Erbil, Iraq in 1325. He was the son of pious parents and memorized the Noble Qur’an at the age of eight. He is known for his works in the Company style of painting, which blended Mughal and Western painting techniques. He rose to prominence in British Raj under European patronage, particularly during his time in Patna and Calcutta. His works often depicted natural studies, including birds and animals, and were known for their bright, simple backgrounds and keenly wrought details.
