Shen Shaomin is a Chinese artist born in 1956 in Heilongjiang Province, China. He is based in Sydney and Beijing. Shen Shaomin is known for his multimedia work, which studies the explicit brutality of human nature. He has created experimental, kinetic sculptures, as well as woodblock prints, which he learned outside the formal art academy system. Shen Shaomin's work often incorporates real animal bones, creating fictional creatures and bestiaries that adopt the role of being anthropologist, scientist, and author of his own fabricated mythologies.
