Biography:

Mitsuo Shigemura was a Japanese sculptor born in Tokyo in 1936. He studied at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, where he obtained a degree in sculpture in 1960. He then continued his studies in France, at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was influenced by the work of Auguste Rodin. Shigemura's work is characterized by its abstract and minimalist style, often using geometric shapes and simple lines. He has exhibited his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Japan and abroad, and has received several awards for his sculptures. Shigemura died in 2017.
