Biography:

Takizawa Shigenobu was a Japanese painter and print artist who was active in the Edo period (1615–1868). He was a pupil of Katsushika Hokusai and married his eldest daughter. Takizawa Shigenobu is known for his prolific work as an artist of 'surimono', illustrated books and illustrations for various publications. He is also known for his paintings of beautiful women, which are characterized by their use of thick lines and bright colors, and for his prints of bijin with very colorful and complex patterns on their kimono. Takizawa Shigenobu's work is often compared to that of the Torii school, which is known for its theater signboards. However, Takizawa Shigenobu's style is said to depict subjects in a very stereotyped manner, which is in sharp contrast to the style of the Torii school. Takizawa Shigenobu's direct disciples' work fell into sharp decline after his banishment to Ōshima in 1714.
