Biography:
Shinji Ohmaki is an interdisciplinary artist born in Gifu Prefecture, Japan in 1971. He is internationally renowned for his large scale site-specific installations that play with the viewer's perception of space and reality. Ohmaki's work often explores the themes of 'Existence', 'homeland', 'borders', 'surveillance', 'identity', 'race', 'ethnicity', and 'national origin(s)'. He has presented his ambitious installations in numerous exhibitions around the world, including the Venice Biennale and the Yokohama Triennale. Ohmaki has also been honored with numerous awards, including the Arte Laguna Prize and the Ohara Museum of Art Prize. He is currently based in Tokyo, Japan.
