Biography:
Bertram Mackennal was an Australian sculptor and medallist, most famous for designing the coinage and stamps bearing the likeness of George V. He was born in Melbourne in 1863, the son of Scottish immigrant and architectural sculptor J S Mackennal. Mackennal studied at the National Gallery Schools in Melbourne before moving to London in 1889, where he became a leading sculptor of his time. He was knighted in 1921 and died in London in 1931.
