Biography:

Soheila Sokhanvari is an Iranian-born British multidisciplinary visual artist. She was born in Shiraz, Pahlavi Iran in 1964 and left the country at the age of 14 before the Iranian Revolution to study in the United Kingdom. After moving away from her family and homeland, she found greater importance in her family photos. Sokhanvari is a dual national with citizenship in both Iran and the UK. She graduated with a degree in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge in 1986. She also holds a degree in fine art and art history from Anglia Ruskin University, a postgraduate diploma from Chelsea College of Art and Design (now Chelsea College of Arts), and an MFA degree from Goldsmiths' College. Sokhanvari is known for her drawings and egg-tempera paintings, often featuring memories or based on family photographs. She currently lives in Cambridge where she works as an associate artist at the Wysing Arts Centre, a contemporary arts residency centre. Her artwork can be found in museum collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and National Gallery of Victoria.
