Biography:
Soledad Barrio, also known as Soledad, Sofrenia, is a Spanish flamenco dancer born in Madrid in 1964. She began dancing at the age of four and was inspired to pursue flamenco professionally after watching the 1981 film 'Blood Wedding'. She trained at the Amor de Dios studio in Madrid and saved money to continue her training by dancing at hotels. She has received critical acclaim for her performances and has won several awards, including the Dance Magazine Exceptional Artist Award in 2015, the Bessie Award for Performer in 2001 and 2022, and the Vilek Prize for Dance in 2022. She co-founded the Noche Flamenca dance company with her husband, Martin Santangelo, in 1993.
