Sulaiman Haji Esa is a Malaysian artist born in Kuala Lumpur in 1953. He is known for his ability to strike a symbiotic balance between globalisation and his own cultural heritage, drawing on Islamic spirituality to develop an alternative perspective in his work. He is a member of the Malaysian Scouts Association and has been influenced by the Aligarh Movement, which aimed to establish a modern system of Western-style scientific education for the Muslim population of British India. Sulaiman Haji Esa is the current Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, the lower house of the Parliament of Malaysia, a position he has held since 2022.
