Biography:
Terry Fox was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian and cancer research activist. He is best known for his Marathon of Hope, an attempt to run across Canada to raise money and awareness for cancer research after losing his right leg to osteosarcoma. Despite having one leg amputated, he ran 5,373 kilometers (3,339 miles) in 143 days before the spread of his cancer forced him to end his quest. Terry Fox passed away on June 28, 1981 at the age of 22.
