Biography:

Thalhimers Americana Shop was a department store chain in the Southern United States, based in Richmond, Virginia. It was founded in 1842 by William Thalhimer, a German Jewish immigrant who opened a one-room dry goods store in Richmond. Over the years, the store expanded and transformed into a 26-store chain, with locations in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Thalhimers was known for its upscale merchandise and became a hub for fashion in the South. The store was particularly famous for its holiday traditions, such as visits from the Snow Bear and the arrival of Lego Land at the downtown Richmond store. Thalhimers was acquired by Hecht's in 1992 and later became part of Macy's in 2006.
