Tokay Habib oglu Mammadov was an Azerbaijani sculptor-monumentalist. He was born on July 18, 1927, in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR. His mother Zivar khanum Mammadova was the first woman-sculptor of Azerbaijan and his father Habib Mammadov was a professor and candidate of technical sciences. Tokay Mammadov studied at the Institute of Arts, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E.Repin in St. Petersburg from 1945 to 1951. He began working with wood as one of the first Azerbaijani sculptors and it became his favorite material. In 1963 he started teaching at Azerbaijan State University of Art and trained many young and talented specialists. Tokay Mammadov was conferred a memorial medal 'Foreign great services to the Academy in honor of the 250th anniversary' by Russian Academy of Arts. He held various positions including chairman of the Union of Artists of Azerbaijan from 1970 to 1972.
