Udaya Charan Shrestha is a Newar artist born in Kathmandu, Nepal in 1962. He is a master of the traditional Newar art form of Paubha painting. Paubha is a religious painting made by the Newar people of Nepal, depicting deities, mandalas or monuments, and used to help practitioners in meditation. Udaya Charan Shrestha is known for his intricate and detailed Paubha paintings, which are highly valued for their religious and cultural significance. He is a member of the Chitrakar caste, who are known as Pun in Nepal Bhasa, and are the traditional painters of Paubhas. Udaya Charan Shrestha's paintings are displayed during festivals and other special occasions, and are used to earn religious merit both for the artist and the patron. He is one of the most renowned Paubha painter in Nepal and his works are highly sought after by collectors and art enthusiasts.
