Biography:

Vanko Urumov was born in Varna, Bulgaria in 1941. He graduated from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia in 1971, where he studied under Prof. Panayot Panayotov. Urumov was a versatile artist, working in various mediums including painting, graphics, and monumental arts. He participated in numerous national and international exhibitions and received several awards for his work, including the Grand Prize at the First International Competition for Young Painters in 1976, the 'Zahari Zograf' Award in 1977, the Award at the Biennale of Painting in Bucharest in 1979, and the 'Medusa Aurea' Award from the Academy of Contemporary Arts in Rome in 1980. He was also the director of the City Art Gallery in Varna for many years. Urumov passed away in 2020.
