Biography:
Wilfried Bauer was a German photographer born in Hamburg in 1963. He obtained his diploma and PhD in Geology from RWTH Aachen University. He developed his own expressive and subjective visual language early on, and became one of the most sought-after and successful reportage photographers in Germany in the seventies, eighties, and nineties. His series were printed millions of times in various publications such as FAZ Magazin, ZEITmagazin, stern, GEO, Merian, and SPIEGEL. He found his subjects not only on his countless journeys all over the world but also in his immediate surroundings and in the Haseldorfer Marsch. Unfortunately, a fire set by the photographer before his suicide in 2005 destroyed part of his archive, limiting the availability of his motifs. Dr. Ute Schreiner's commitment has made it possible to preserve and promote his work.
