Biography:

Ze’ev Raban, also known as Wolf Rawicki (Ravitzki), was a leading painter, decorative artist, and industrial designer of the Bezalel school style. He was one of the founders of the Israeli art world. Raban was born in Kovno, Russian Empire (now Kaunas, Lithuania) in 1890 and died in 1970. He was of Hebrew origin and the name Ze’ev means wolf. The name is a masculine form used among Ashkenazi Jews and is derived from a reference to Benjamin in Genesis as a 'wolf that raveneth'. The name Ze’ev or Zev may also refer to a translation of the Yiddish name װאָלף 'Volf' or 'Wolf', which was relatively common among Germans.
