Biography:

Robert Hancock was an English engraver and painter. He was born in Staffordshire, England in 1730. Hancock studied under Simon François Ravenet and was initially engaged as an engraver at the Battersea Enamel Works. In 1756 or 1757, he became a draughtsman and engraver to the Worcester Porcelain Works, where he engraved numerous plates for transfer-printed china. He was one of the proprietors of the works from 1772 to 1774 and retained his property in a house built by Holdship on the works until 1804. Hancock used the signature 'R. Hancock (or 'Hancock') fecit' on his work, which is now highly valued for its beauty and historical significance.
