Biography:
Xu Cao was a Chinese artist who specialized in figure painting. He was born in Beijing and studied at the Beijing National Art Academy. After graduating, he became a teacher at the school and later served as its president. Xu Cao was known for his conservative style and his use of traditional Chinese painting techniques. He was a leading artist in Peking in the 1930s and 1940s and was inspired by the work of the 15th century artist Du Jin. Xu Cao's work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the National Art Museum of China in Beijing. Xu Cao died in 1961. He is remembered as a leading artist in Peking in the 1930s and 1940s and as a master of traditional Chinese painting techniques. His work continues to be exhibited and collected around the world.
