Biography:
Yahya Jawad (1931-1997) was an Iraqi artist born in Baghdad. He was a prominent sculptor known for his abstract and modernist works. Jawad studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad and later at the Royal College of Art in London. He exhibited his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Iraq, Europe, and the United States. Jawad's sculptures often featured geometric shapes and were made of materials such as bronze, steel, and stone. He was also known for his public art installations, including the famous 'Crippled Lion' sculpture in Baghdad. Jawad's work was influenced by Iraqi culture and history, as well as by international art movements such as Cubism and Futurism. He was a member of the Iraqi Artists Union and received several awards for his contributions to Iraqi art. Jawad passed away in 1997 in Baghdad.
