Biography:
Yang Xiong, also known as Yang Hsiung, was a Chinese philosopher, poet, and politician of the Western Han dynasty. He was born near Chengdu, China in 53 BC and died in 18 AD. Yang Xiong is best known for his philosophical writings and fu poetry. He was a prolific yet reclusive court poet whose writings and tragic life spanned the collapse of the Former Han dynasty and the brief Xin dynasty. He was the author of the Fangyan, a recueil of regional expressions. Yang Xiong is considered one of the most important philosophers of the Han dynasty and his works have had a lasting impact on Chinese philosophy and literature.
