Biography:
Yano Yacho, also known as Hirotake Yano, was a Japanese businessman born on April 19, 1943, in Beiping, China. He is best known as the founder of the Daiso discount retail chain. Yano's family moved back to his father's home town Higashi-Hiroshima when World War II ended. He took up boxing while at Hiroshima Kokutaiji High School and became a Hiroshima Prefectural representative. Yano married Katsuyo Yano while he was a student and adopted her surname for business transactions. He struggled to find employment after graduating from Chuo University's Faculty of Science and Engineering in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Yano died of heart failure on February 12, 2024, at the age of 80.
