Biography:
The Yuan dynasty was a Mongol-led imperial dynasty of China that lasted from 1271 to 1368. It was established by Kublai Khan, the fifth khagan-emperor of the Mongol Empire, and was the first foreign-ruled dynasty in Chinese history to commandeer all of China. The Yuan dynasty was the khanate ruled by the successors of Möngke and was the khanate that ruled over the other Mongol-led khanates: the Chagatai, the Golden Horde, and the Ilkhanate. The Yuan dynasty was also sometimes referred to as the Empire of the Great Khan. The Yuan emperors claimed supremacy over the other successor Mongol khanates, but their subservience was nominal and each continued its own separate development. The Yuan dynasty was the last dynasty of China to use the traditional Chinese language as the official language, and the first to use the Mongolian language and the 'Phags-pa script as the official language. The Yuan dynasty was replaced by the Ming dynasty in 1368.
