Miwa Zaiei was a Japanese painter, born in Kyoto in 1653 and died in 1717. He was a master of the Chinese portrait painting, which was very popular in Japan during the Edo period. He was also known for his mastery of the "baimiao" technique, which consists in drawing the outlines of the figures in ink before filling them with color. His works are characterized by their elegance and refinement, as well as by their great technical mastery. He is considered one of the greatest painters of the Edo period in Japan.
