Biography:
Bernhard Zan was a German goldsmith and engraver who was active in Nuremberg around 1580. He is known for his series of 40 goldsmith's designs, which were published in 1581 and again in 1584. The designs show intricate patterns of vegetal scrollwork and were likely used as models for engraved vessels. Zan's work is held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum, and the RKD Netherlands Institute for Art History.
